The remaining petrol engines all use timing belts. The three-cylinder 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine's belt change interval is a massive 240,000 kilometres or 10 years, the 1.6 EcoBoost's is 200,000 kilometres or 10 years (as is the newer 1.5 EcoBoost's) and the older 1.6 Ti-VCT engine's belt must be changed every 160,000 kilometres or eight years.
The 1.0L EcoBoost GTDI engine uses an oil-bathed timing belt, so donโt panic when you see an oil-soaked belt. When servicing timing belts or chains on any of Fordโs 4-cylinder GTDI engines, do not loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt without first locking down the crankshaft and camshafts with the special tools. The Interim Service and the Annual Inspection has been introduced in between the scheduled Main Service. 1 Year: Service every year. 2 Year: Service every second year. FFV: Bio-ethanol drive (Flexi fuel) / LPG: LPG engine / CNG: Natural gas drive August 2020. Changes and errors subject to change without notice.
I tried to replace the sparkplug and one broke off in the head. I had it towed to a mechanic and he could not get it out with the special tool so he took it to the dealer who had to replace the cylinder head ($3,000). I now see that I should replace the timing belt/water pump preventatively which will probably be around $1,500 to $2,000 I guess.
