What does DPF mean on a VW Golf? The DPF stands for Diesel Particulate Filter. It is a device installed on the exhaust system of a VW Golf diesel engine that is designed to reduce the amount of harmful particulate matter that is emitted into the air. Fuel is fairly cheap here in the states, compared to most other places. And your realistic 5% wont make up the difference for a long time. 10 year or less depending on how much you drive and the lead foot effect of nodding your car wont help. You will have a most nasty smelling exhaust and a slightly better sounding car.
Failed regeneration. Over the years the common problems with Volkswagen DPF's we have seen have been due to failed regeneration. Even after cleaning, a lot of VW cars then "fail" to regenerate as before, we have found that the temperature sensors in these cars suffer from carbon build up and eventually stop sending the correct temperature
May 18, 2012. #1. Hey Guys I could use some expert help from the group. I have a 2010 VW Jetta TDI and I keep getting a check engine light every 20,000 miles which turns out to be an issue with the DPF filter. I have 81,000 miles on the car and so far I have had 4 failures (4 new DPF Filters). The most recent of which I am going through right now. Nov 27, 2009. #11. Another possible option might be to install a "plug" in the bottom of the DPF. DPFs get clogged by ash (what cannot be burned in the regenerations). Ash tends to gather in the bottom of the DPF. When it gets full enough it blocks off the "exit" to the rest of the system.
After further investigation, it was determined that the EGR filter and DPF would be replaced due to internal malfunction (VTA Access Code-1143300). Just got the car back today, THIS REPAIR WAS 100% COVERED BY VW UNDER THE EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM WARRANTY. My service man said this would have cost me $2300 and change.
